A Letter From Our Principal

A Letter From Our Principal | Covid-19
Posted on 04/15/2020

Dear Lightfoot Families,

I hope this finds everyone healthy and safe. By now, I know all of you are dealing with the closure of all district campuses, including Lightfoot for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. I hope you all know this was done with a lot of thought by our amazing district, and though it is understandable, nonetheless it was a shock to all of us.

Thank you in advance for your patience as our district leadership team continues to meet to discuss, explore, and problem solve many issues surrounding our closure. Thank you for staying updated by taking the time to read the “Superintendents Update To Families” as they come to you each week. These are very useful and answer a lot of the questions shared by you all.

I truly appreciate your support of our Distance Learning model and for contacting us if you need assistance with any aspect of virtual learning. We are here to help, so please contact myself or your child’s teacher through the Remind app or their email and check our school website often. Your voices have been heard, so in the last two weeks we started a grab-and-go pick up for essential items that can help your child with their distance learning. As time progresses, please don’t hesitate to let us know what you still need. I am so impressed by the dedication to continued learning that I see in our staff, students and parents.  Try to be considerate of our teachers, as many of them are not only working hard to transition into this new phase of teaching, they are also home with their families and working with their own children to keep them engaged in academics. Lightfoot Elementary has always been special because of our strong commitment to working together as a team to ensure every student’s success, and this has not changed despite these difficult times.

I know you have many questions as we navigate the weeks ahead. Our district is working on a plan for all our schools to return student’s personal items, completed work, yearbooks, and any earned certificates to you as soon as safely possible. If you would like to request a refund from a school lunch account you should contact the ESD Child Nutrition department at 909-803-3155 or cathy_vessels@etiwanda.org. Any remaining balances will automatically roll over in the student’s account for next year. Reimbursements for cancelled field trips will be made by our office in the weeks ahead. Our district is also in the process of making a decision related to Trimester III report cards which will be shared with you soon through the Superintendent’s message.

The Lightfoot staff is committed to navigating our way through this and continuing to deliver meaningful and engaging learning opportunities via multiple digital platforms. Thank you so very much for your patience and support as we face these challenges. I know our Leopards will meet this challenge and make us all proud by reflecting our 2019-20 school slogan, “Building Tomorrow’s Leaders Today!”

Stay well and stay in touch,

Rosann Marlen
