A Letter From Our Principal
Posted on 07/08/2021

Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to Lightfoot Elementary School… A National Blue Ribbon School, a California Distinguished School, and home to our Leopard family. To our returning families, welcome back! To our newest Leopards, I want to welcome you into our Lightfoot family for the 2021-2022 school year. We’re looking forward to seeing you Monday, August 9th, the first day of school. I’m sure our students will return reenergized with a hope that they will have the best year yet. We are looking forward to welcoming all our students back to campus with full day, in-person instruction this school year.

To start the year off right, ongoing communication is vital to be “in the know” and engaged in your student’s school life. I invite you to take a look at our school website (www.cpl.etiwanda.org) which provides information on upcoming events, important teacher webpage links, announcements, and many other educational resources.  Our online gradebook, Aeries, provides you with a live view of your student’s grades. A wonderful notification feature in Aeries is the email message that is customizable so you can receive alerts on a weekly basis. You will also be receiving my weekly auto dialer message and email blast to inform you about the upcoming week’s events Thursday evenings. This contact information is compiled using your preferences in the Aeries Parent Portal. Please help us keep it updated if there are any changes so you can be in the know.

Lightfoot’s PTO has been instrumental in so many activities for our students and teachers. We are so grateful for their support and commitment to help our school. Our PTO membership drive will begin when school starts on August 9th. In order to encourage more participation, one class with the highest membership percentage in each grade level will earn a BBQ lunch. We are looking forward to the many events planned this year as a way to promote a positive, safe, engaging learning environment where students come to achieve greatness.

Lightfoot’s Vision and Mission

At Carleton P. Lightfoot Elementary, a California Distinguished School, we firmly believe in our vision, that all children can and do learn and will strive to fulfill their potential as learners in an atmosphere of acceptance, respect, and high expectations. Our staff is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for learning. We believe that parents are an integral part of a child’s education. Parents, teachers and the community, working together, provide a quality educational experience for all students.

It is our mission at CPL to ensure that all children learn as we nurture student’s uniqueness and special talents. We credit our success to our entire staff’s ongoing commitment to support every student as they grow as a scholar. While CPL’s system of standards-based education is driven by rigorous academic standards, and high expectations, our number one focus is the whole child.

This year we will be experiencing a large construction project that will take the entire school year to complete. Although the final outcome will be beautiful, there will need to be some adjustments along the way, similar to any construction project. These adjustments include: pickup/drop-off procedures, alternate school office location, relocated kindergarten rooms, and reduced parking on the north side of the campus, to name a few.  More information is provided on the next page.

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!

Proud to be a Leopard and especially proud to be your principal! Mr. Kooyman
